FROM AN ON THE GROUND DIGITAL SOLDIER ...Recent california earthquakes:
Boots on the ground for 12/5/24 earthquakes in CA
According to USGS website:
7.0 magnitude Offshore in Pacific Ocean west of Eureka, CA (about 300 miles north of San Francisco Bay Area
87 earthquakes around Petrolia & Ferndale, CA in Humboldt County-(1st place in California where oil wells were drilled), all with magnitudes ranging from 2.5-4.9 - most in 3.0 to 4.9 range. About 230 miles north of San Francisco Bay Area. These smaller earthquakes started at 10:46 am just 2 minutes after the offshore 7.0 earthquake at 10:44 am PST. The latest one recorded was 10:36 pm.
I was in a small cafe on the Pacifica Pier having coffee and watching the blue/green ocean waves on a sunny 62-degree day with no wind or offshore breeze. I felt no sensation of an earthquake. Within 5 minutes of the 7.0 quake, people’s phones started ringing with the alert alarm, with instructions to evacuate coastal locations. We have 3 tsunami sirens in Pacifica and none of them went on. Within minutes of the phone alarms came texts snd emails to my phone, with instructions to go inland to higher ground.
Within 10 minutes, local law enforcement officers were knocking on seaside homes forcing immediate evacuation. A close friend of mine was one of them. She felt stress and panic as she grabbed her dog and her emergency “go bags” and left in her car. Law enforcement causing Unnecessary stress, in my opinion.
Local seaside businesses, banks, post offices, etc all closed up. Some stayed closed the rest of the day, but most reopened as soon as they could.
About noon I received an update text on my phone, saying that my County of San Mateo was safe from the tsunami.
My opinions:
1
2 No tsunami, no big waves, and what was the stress-induced urgency? Waves can’t travel 300 miles in minutes. And as Janine would say, “a nothing burger!”
3
4 this was a “test” of the emergency broadcast system for California. A “test” to see who complied. A “test” to see if their communication systems worked.
5
6 If a tsunsmi were imminent, why didn’t the tsunami sirens go off?
7
8 And meanwhile, the local surfers were enjoying the winter surf, wondering why so many people were waving at them from a distance!?! They just stayed in the ocean enjoying their sport!
