Developed under Project MKNAOMI (a joint CIA/Army Special Operations initiative at Fort Detrick), the weapon fired a micro-dart made of frozen shellfish toxin (saxitoxin). The ice-like dart dissolved rapidly inside the body, leaving behind only a tiny red dot at the entry site.
The toxin induced a fatal cardiac arrest within minutes and degraded rapidly in the bloodstream, rendering the death virtually indistinguishable from a natural heart attack during a standard autopsy at the time.
