What Happens If You Say No To Digital ID?
Nothing dramatic. No fines, no police, no threats. Just a slow closing of doors.
It starts small…you can’t renew something online, a form suddenly says “One Login required.” Then, little by little, the old options fade. Paper forms, phone lines, and in-person help start to vanish behind “digital only.”
But here’s what most people don’t realise: you can still live without it. And you don’t need to panic.
You can file your tax return by post. (Or not)
You can visit your bank and get paper statements.
You can pay bills in person or request paper versions.
You can use cash, keep receipts, and trade locally.
You can verify ID through post offices or assisted centres.
It’s slower, yes. But slower doesn’t mean worse.
It means real conversations, privacy, and control.
For some, this might even mean living a little more off-grid, slower, simpler, more self-reliant. Not hiding, just living on your own terms.
And no, you don’t need to get rid of your smart phone. The phone isn’t the problem. It’s what you connect it to.
You can still use it for calls, photos, and maps, just skip the digital ID apps, face scans, and logins that tie everything back to your identity.
Refusing a digital ID doesn’t make you extreme.
It makes you someone who values choice.
You’re not being left behind.
You’re just choosing not to hand over your keys.
