In 1969 The Fifth Dimension released "Aquarius/Let The Sunshine In" a psychedelic soul medley that captured the hopes of a generation who believed a new world was just within reach.
Originally written for the 1967 musical Hair, the song envisions a coming Age of Aquarius marked by peace, understanding, and “the mind’s true liberation.”
But it was The Fifth Dimension who turned it into a cultural phenomenon. Their version spent six weeks at No. 1, won two Grammys, and became an anthem of the counterculture’s more optimistic edge.
And yet, their success wasn’t without backlash.
To many white audiences, their sound was polished, apolitical, and “safe.” But their Blackness still kept them off nightclub rosters and television appearances.
Meanwhile, some Black listeners accused them of sounding too white—too far removed from the urgent edge of soul, funk, and protest.
Still, “Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In” endures as a defining artifact of its time.
A Black group topping the charts with a song about universal awakening challenged the narrow categories imposed by the industry and the era. It asked listeners to imagine something bigger.
The Age of Aquarius may not have arrived, but for a few minutes in 1969, it sounded like it had.

An interesting synchronicity with the recent publication by Ukrainian astronomers of a paper discussing video evidence of UFOs and bases on the Moon are claims by two independent sources of major attacks on the major lunar base belonging to US Space Command - Lunar Operations Command.
The first source is Dr. Katharine Milano (a clinical psychologist) who claims to be in touch with the Ashtar Command, which says the German Dark Fleet/Nachtwaffen launched a surprise attack on Lunar Operations Command on July 27. The second source is Ismael Perez who claims to be in touch with Valiant Thor, a Venusian who began working with the Pentagon in the 1950s, who allegedly told Perez that Lunar Operations Command was also attacked by the Dark Fleet.
