I Remember as a Child Born Without Arms What I Experienced Because I Did Not Look Like What Society Views As 'Normal.' I Am Grateful That Growing Up I Had A Very Strong Support System Who Helped Me Through My Ups and Downs.
They Comforted and Supported Me When It Was Needed BUT They'd Also Give Me A Loving Swift Kick In The Butt Whenever I Felt Like I Wanted To Give Up. I Am So Grateful For ALL The Many Different People I Had In My Life Who Helped Me Become The Strong Independent Person I Am Today.
I Was Born Without Arms Due To A Prescribed Medication My Mom Was Taking During Her Pregnancy. The Prescribed Medication 'THALIDOMIDE' Was Prescribed To Pregnant Women To Help Alleviate Morning Sickness. Sadly It Caused Thousands Of Babies To Be Born Without Arms, Legs or Both. In My Case I Was Born Missing My Upper Limbs (arms).
I Am Fully Independent By Use Of My Feet. In My World 'My Hands Are My Feet, My Fingers Are My Toes and My Arms Are My Legs.' My Feet, Toes, Legs Are Super Strong Because I Use Them On All On A Daily Basis Not Just To Walk But To Do Whatever I Need To Do Each Day.
I Can Do Just About Anything You Can Do, I Just Use My Feet. I Do NOT Focus On What I Can Not Do. I Focus and Remain Grateful For The Many Things I Can Do. I Know People Who Have Certain Types Of Disabilities and They Can Not Do The Things I Can Do, With That Thought In Mind To This Day I Remain Humble and Grateful.
We're In The 21st Century and Sadly Society In General Still Remains Ignorant When It Comes To Their Knowledge and Acceptance of People With Disabilities. Much Of Society In The US Doesn't Know or Interact With A Person Who's Disabled.
WHY? I Don't Know, But I Know Its' A Social Issue That Should Be Bought To The Forefront, Because People With Disabilities A Very Strong Part Of Society. We Contribute Equally In Many Different Ways, But People Don't Know That Because They Rarely Take The Time To Interact With Us.
Don't Get Me Wrong Being The Person I Am I Grew Up Knowing and Befriending People From All Backgrounds. I Have Friends Who Are Disabled and Friends Who Are Not Disabled. I Enjoy Interacting With Anyone Who Has a Good Character, Kind Heart and True Spirit.
I Want To Do My Small Part To Help Bridge The Gap Between People With Disabilities and Those Who Are Not Disabled. There Is No Reason In The 21st Century That People With Disabilities Should Still Feel As Though They Remain Hidden, Pushed Aside as 3rd Class Citizens.
This Type Attitude Needs To STOP Because We Are Literally Entering Into The Galactic Era. ONE Big Part Of The Galactic CODEX Is Acceptance Of Those Who Are Different Than What Is Perceived as Normal.
There Are A Zillion ALIEN Species and Each Species Has A Variety Of Unique Differences. ALIENS Come In A Variety Of Colors, Shapes, and Sizes. SOME Look Strange, Funny, Scary, Startling BUT That's ok Because Beneath Their Extrior They Are Good People. Its' Vital To Take The Time Getting To Know Someone Before You Past Judgment Against Them Based On How They Look.
